Semiotic Theory

Saussure stated that there were three components which made us decide on the mood or feeling of a piece of media. This is called the Semiotic theory. The three components were put together in a process to work like this:

A sign (could be a colour or object) + a signifier (could be a piece of dialogue or music) = a signified process

For my music magazine, I am going to focus on the rock/punk-rock/alternative genre of music. This means that my magazine will use strong, dark colours such as black for the background, which will be contrasted with quite bold colours such as red and white for text, which would stand out off of the dark background. This makes it easier to read and catches the eyes of the reader. The pages will also include pictures of the musical artist (which I haven't decided on yet). Every page will be consistent with one another.
